Browns Bay Wastewater Pump Station and Pipeline Upgrade
Upgrading the Browns Bay wastewater pump station and replacing a section of wastewater pipeline to improve network reliability and resilience.
Duration

Location
Browns Bay
Status
Construction
Project overview:
Watercare is upgrading the Browns Bay Wastewater Pump Station and replacing a section of the existing wastewater pipeline (rising main) near the beach end of Browns Bay Road.
These works will help improve the reliability and resilience of the wastewater network serving Browns Bay and help protect the local environment.
A temporary wastewater bypass system has been installed to allow construction to continue while maintaining wastewater services to the community.
What we are doing
The project includes:
- upgrading the existing wastewater pump station
- replacing a section of the wastewater rising main
- installing new mechanical and electrical infrastructure
- improving the long-term reliability and resilience of the local wastewater network
A map of the work area can be viewed below.

What happens next
Construction activities recommenced on 28 September 2026 following the temporary site demobilisation period.
Current works are focused on:
- upgrades within the wastewater pump station
- installation of mechanical and electrical equipment
- valve chamber works and associated infrastructure
- commissioning of upgraded assets
Upgrade works that do not affect operation of the pump station are expected to be completed before Christmas 2026. Replacement of the remaining pumps is planned to commence following Watercare's brownout period in mid January 2027.
The temporary bypass system is expected to remain in operation through the Christmas period while upgrades continue.
Project completion, removal of the temporary bypass and final reinstatement activities are currently expected to occur during February and March 2027, subject to construction progress and weather conditions.
How will these works affect you?
Residents and visitors may continue to notice:
- construction activity during normal working hours
- temporary traffic management near the pump station
- temporary parking restrictions near the work area
- site facilities and construction equipment operating within the construction zone
- the temporary wastewater bypass remaining in operation
Property access will continue to be maintained.
Residents and businesses directly affected by future construction activities will continue to receive project updates.
Recent Project Milestone
A major milestone was recently achieved with the successful overnight connection and commissioning of the temporary bypass system.
The temporary bypass is now operating and will allow wastewater services to continue uninterrupted while upgrades to the pump station and pipeline continue over the coming months. We'd like to thank nearby residents for their patience during the recent overnight works required to complete this milestone.
