Project overview
Pukekohe is a growing community, with approximately 50,000 people expected to move into the area over the next 20 years. To support the existing and upcoming growth in Pukekohe North and the Paerata catchment areas, we’re building a new wastewater pump station and installing 4km of pipeline to increase capacity and improve network resilience. The project will also help to protect the environment by reducing the risk of wet weather overflows.

We’re building a new 480l/s (litres per second) transmission wastewater pump station at 50A Isabella Drive, Pukekohe.
Once complete, it will divert the wastewater flows from the existing Cape Hill and Isabella wastewater pump stations (WWPS), allowing us to decommission the aging infrastructure. It will also divert some of the wastewater flows from the Franklin Road WWPS, which will reduce the capacity issues it is currently experiencing.
For the duration of the project, our construction laydown area will be located next to this site at 50 Isabella Drive, Pukekohe.

To connect the new WWPS into the existing network, and divert the wastewater flows from the existing pump stations, we are installing 4km of new pipeline that will run along:
- Isabella Drive
- Franklin Road
- Stadium Drive
- Station Road, and
- Manukau Road.
This pipeline will be installed using a combination of open trenching and a trenchless method called Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). Wherever possible, our team will use HDD to reduce the impact to the community.
Upcoming pipeline installation on Station Road
Works to install the new pipeline will take place in two worksites along Station Road will begin on Monday 29 June 2026.
Site 1
Outside Pukekohe Train Station, the pipeline will be installed using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). HDD is a trenchless construction method used to install underground utilities without digging a full open trench.
Entry and exit pits will be excavated at key locations along the route and will be securely fenced from the public. These 2m x 4m pits provide access for drilling equipment and pipeline installation. Smaller service pit may also be required. Please see the attached map for the approximate pit locations.
Site 2
This section of pipeline will be installed using open trenching. This means that the team will close a section of the road, dig a trench, install the new pipeline, before reinstating the worksite and moving along to the next section. A full road closure is required for site 2. Resident access within the closure will be maintained.

How will this affect you?
Work along Station Road will begin on Monday 29 June 2026. The HDD works are expected to finish at the end of July 2026. The open trenching works will continue to progress along the pipeline route.
Our general working hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am-5pm. On occasion, night works may need to take place. Impacted residents will be informed ahead of time.
During working hours, general construction noise, vibrations and increased vehicle movements should be expected. We will ensure our works are kept within our consented limits.
Approximately 50 parks along Station Road will be temporarily unavailable while this work is underway.
During this work, an approved traffic management plan (TMP) will be in place. Our traffic controllers will be located along the road to help you during working hours. You will notice changes such as:
- Stop/go traffic management
- Partial road closure on Station Road
- Road diversions
- Reduced parking
- Reduced speeds
To keep everyone safe, please follow all signs, light signals, and traffic directions.
During open trenching, access to private property may be temporarily impacted. Our contractors will speak to impacted residents ahead of time.
