Project overview
The Sylvia Park Wastewater Renewals Project is an essential upgrade to ageing wastewater infrastructure across the Sylvia Park and Mount Wellington area. Several existing pipes in this network have experienced failures and are now in poor condition, increasing the risk of further issues for local homes, businesses, and public spaces.
To ensure the network remains safe, reliable, and able to support the community into the future, Watercare is undertaking a programme of investigation and renewal works to determine the most effective long-term solution.
What we have done
Since March 2026, our contractor HEB has completed an early phase of investigations to better understand the condition and layout of the existing wastewater network.
These activities included:
- Ground penetrating radar to locate underground services
- Land surveying to map pipe routes and surrounding features
- Targeted potholing to confirm pipe depth and position
This work has provided valuable data on the current state of the infrastructure and the constraints within the project area.
What happens next?
We are currently reviewing the data collected during the investigation phase and expect to confirm the most effective renewal approach in the coming months.
Once the approach is confirmed, we will provide a further update outlining the proposed construction methodology and indicative timeframes for delivery.

Thank you for your patience and collaboration whilst we carry out this essential work.
