Why is the project needed?

We are undertaking upgrades to the water network to cater for current and future development along with population growth. The current water network cannot cater for any further growth in the Waikōwhai/Mt Roskill area. This project will enable 4,000 dwellings that are proposed by Kainga Ora, plus 170 infill dwellings within the Waikōwhai/Mt Roskill area. Please refer to the overall site works map showing upcoming sections of work, work in progress and completed sections.

The proposal

The project comprises of the following:

  • Approximately 5,750 metres of watermains will be constructed, ranging in diameter from 300mm to 450mm. It is estimated the construction of the watermains will take approximately 18 months to complete.
  • One new bulk supply point.
  • A new booster pump station at 1374 Dominion Road (adjacent to the Akarana Golf Club) to replace the existing Hillsborough Pump Station.

Current works

Update on works on on Dominion Road, Mt Roskill

In late July 2024 our crew extended the traffic management layout to just past the Akarana pumpstation at 1374 Dominion Road (adjacent to the Akarana Golf Club).

This important section of work to lay the watermain on Dominion Road and connect into the Akarana pumpstation is estimated to take until late October 2024 to complete (weather permitting).

Please refer to the map below for the section of work and traffic management in place.

How will this affect you?

  • Working hours – will be from 7.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. We will only work Saturdays if required.
  • Traffic management - will be in place 24/7 during construction for the safety of the public, traffic, and our workers. As we are open trenching along the middle of the road there is a safety need for traffic management to reduce speed, please allow more time for travel.
  • On-street parking - will have temporary restrictions, please do not park where ‘no parking’ cones have been placed on the road as this could cause work delays.
  • Construction works – will generate some noise and vibration; however, levels will be kept to a minimum and in accordance with Auckland Council and consent conditions and the certified construction, noise and vibration management plan.

Oakdale Road

From Tuesday 16 July, our contractor will begin laying the section of watermain on Oakdale Road (between the Oakdale Road/Kathryn Avenue intersection and Oakdale Road/Richardson Road intersection). These works are estimated to take approximately nine weeks to complete (weather dependent). Oakdale Road will be reduced to a one-way traffic management set-up with the flow of traffic heading towards Richardson Road.

Please refer to map below for the section of work and traffic management in place.

  • Working hours - will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. We will only work Saturdays if required.
  • Traffic management - will be in place 24/7 during construction for the safety of the public, traffic movement, and our workers.  Please do not park where cones are placed on Oakdale Road. Access to the road will remain open for residents/delivery drivers when we are not working in front of properties.  Please advise all visitors to ask traffic management for guidance.
  • Resident vehicle access - for the side of the road we are trenching along, access will be unavailable during working hours and possibly after hours when we are working directly in front of properties. Please be prepared to park outside the work area on Oakdale Road. Pedestrian access to your property will be maintained. If vehicle access needs to be restricted, you will be notified in advance.

Richardson Road outside Waikōwhai

Intermediate

On Monday 8 July our contractor Fulton Hogan returned to complete works on Richardson Road outside of the Waikōwhai Intermediate, Hillsborough Kindergarten and Hay Park School. These works will take up to 6 weeks to complete (weather dependent). This work will be done by directional drilling to minimise the impact to the local schools and kindergarten. Please refer to map below for the section of work and traffic management in place.

  • Please keep any eye out over the coming week for further updates as the traffic management will change slightly from the map above.
  • Local businesses are still open: Businesses on Richardson Road/McKinnon Street are open. These local businesses would really appreciate your support while we carry out these important works. Rest assured, our crew is working as quickly as possible to finish works on Richardson Road and limit the disruption to the local businesses and the community.

How will this affect you?

  • Working hours - will be from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. We will only work Saturdays if required.
  • Traffic management - will be in place 24/7 during construction for the safety of the public, traffic and our workers. As we are working in the road there is a need for traffic management to reduce to a one-way direction (traffic flow direction on Richardson Road will be from Hillsborough Road down to the roundabout at the Dominion and Richardson Road intersection). Please follow the detours and allow more time for travel.
  • School vehicle access -  will remain open, however, please expect delays during certain stages while we lay and weld the pipes together as the length may impact the entrance way. We will advise the schools when this will be happening. When leaving your accessway, there is a right turn only. The traffic controllers on site will help and advise you when you can enter or exit.
  • On-street parking - will have some temporary restrictions. Please do not park where ‘no parking’ cones have been placed on the road as this could cause work delays.
  • Bus stops - will be temporarily moved to Morrie Laing Avenue, Mt Roskill.
  • Construction works - will generate some noise and vibration; however, levels will be kept to a minimum and in accordance with Auckland Council and consent conditions and the certified construction, noise and vibration management plan.
